This is one of the before pictures of the kitchen. We're going to rip out the whole thing on Saturday, but I couldn't wait to start . . .
So I took out the windows and some of the trim. Notice in the top picture how the left window has a huge crack in it (one that's been there for at least 4 years).
The reason I took the trim out was to get to the ropes and weights (which need to be replaced because they've been cut or broken). There's another way to get to them, but I think this is easier.

But it was such a cute room before :( It will be fun to see the new & improved!
Thanks! I think it was cute too, but functional is another questions. A dishwasher, a cleanable floor, a disposal, a sturdy sink, a place for a microwave (besides the floor), and space for dinner plates are all going to be great! (The eating section will be very similar still.)
Hey, why were there weights in your walls? And ropes, too?
That's exciting to get a new kitchen, by the way! The before was really cute! Was it kind of sad to rip stuff apart? Also, did it rain after you took out the windows? It's been rainy lately!
The weights and ropes are for the windows. There's a top sash and a bottom sash. Each one has 2 weights connected to 2 ropes. The weights make it so that when you open the window, it stays open. If the top sash works - it stays down; if the bottom sash works it stays up. I'm only going to fix the bottom sashes, because fixing the top ones is a real pain!
ps- hasn't rained yet, but there's some plywood covering the holes now so that nothing comes inside that shouldn't.
Leigh you are amazing. I don't think there is anything you don't know how to do or can't figure out how to do. Way to go. I can't wait to see the progress/finished product!!
Leigh, Good luck! It will be amazing
