potty training again

We just bought a slew of new undies and Luke is currently naked from the bottom down. I know I should be a pro at this after the other 3, but it's hard. I just checked out several books from the library to get some more help (hopefully). I was just wondering if any of you have any good tips, or if you recommend any great books.

Did you potty train "in a day" or over a longer period?

Did your child become night trained at the same time as day trained?

How old was your child when you started?

Was it the hardest thing you've done as a parent so far? Maybe I should be thankful if I think it's the hardest thing so far. And this time, I do have to say, it is easier (but I guess we'll see how long it actually takes before I say how easy it is).

p.s. remember when little Luke looked like this? I barely remember.

I tried to force Ethan into it before he was ready and it was a struggle. So, with Cohen I waited till he gave me the signs; like telling me he was wet, stinky, etc. He was around 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 years old. One day I just asked him if he wanted to wear big boy pants like Ethan and he said, uh huh. So he did. End of story. It's like something clicked with him. He knew he was ready and never really had any accidents. He wore a pull up at night for a few weeks but after consistently dry nights I put him in underwear. He was a dream compared to Ethan. I used a sticker chart for E and everything. It worked, but it took a few weeks.

potty training, oh potty training! It was horrible the first 2 days, I thought I was going to keep him in diapers forever. I started potty training E when he was 2 1/2 because he was showing signs of being ready. He was already going #2 in the potty so when we were training we were just training for pee. I read "Potty training in a day book" and our library has this tote full of potty training stuff (anatomically correct doll, potty, potty books, potty movies) and we did nothing but talk about potty stuff for a week straight. It took about 4 full days for him to get it, but after that he was totally trained (days and nights). I had to always initiate when he went to the bathroom since it took him forever to vocalize it himself, but that came in time. I picked out the things I wanted to use out of the "Potty Training in a Day" book since all of the info since some of it wouldn't work for E's personality. You can go look at the archives on my blog and see the whole experience. Look under July 2008. Best of luck!

Tyler and Benny were both three when I potty trained them.

Tyler was way easier. By the third or fourth day he was good to go and has only ever had ONE accident after that.

Benny was a bit harder. It took about three or four days until he got the hang of it. But I still have to be careful and make him go potty when we are out and about or he will have an accident. We are still working on night training.

I hate hate hate potty training!

My 1 and only boy started potty training when he was 2 1/2....he started on his own...we don't have next door neighbors so we let the kids run around naked in the summer...he said he had to go so I told him to go by the tree...he did! After that he wanted to always go potty outside...that was fine until we went on a road trip and he wanted to go potty in the grass at the hotel we were staying at....started USING the potty that day! :)

I'd intended to do "in a day" w/ Noah but decided I couldn't devote that much time to it when I had other kids around.

My kids were all potty-trained during the day almost exactly at their 3rd birthday; nighttime for all of them was a few months after daytime. With the exception of Noah, who regressed after the arrival of his twin sisters (when he was 3 1/2) and for a few painful months refused to poop in anything BUT a diaper. Those were some good times...

P.S. I think you asked how long it took; with all my kids it was 2 or 3 months, it seems like, but that was not starting until they were fairly old (almost 3). Jamie's kids were all close to age 2 when they did it... some kids are just ready earlier than others.

P.P.S. Super cute baby pic of Luke.

P.P.P.S. I wanted to let you know that I just got home from being out of town for 5 days; I have 83 posts on my google reader and yours was the first one I clicked on :) love you leighleigh!

I tried to potty train Jesusito when he was 2 1/2, or so, and he liked the idea but it didn't click. I taught him all I could at that time and then let him decide when. About 6 months later he saw that our neighbor was wearing normal underwear and wanted to do the same, so I put on his underwear and we haven't had a problem since. I don't give him any liquids at night, so he never had a problem at night. I hope that helps!

Try the towel potty training method.
