yay - as in hooray, yay!
yeah - as in yes
is yah a word? if so, what does it mean?
yea - does it mean anything besides yes?
ya - i suppose this means you.
please feel free to weigh in on this, especially if you specialize in English.

I'm with you on this one I would spell and use "yay" and "yeah" the way you do, but I've noticed that the young folks (~24 ish) that I text use "ya" for "yeah," even in emails and such. I would use it like you suggest, as in "right back at ya." And as far as I know, the only time I've ever heard anyone say "yah" was in the movie Fargo!
Clearly I don't know the proper spellings, we may have to enlist Amy for this one, she would definitely know!
Beats me, I'm always confused about this and just cross my fingers that people understand what I'm saying.
I've always said yea for hooray and yeah for yes and I don't use the other ones. In my head I'm a little opinionated the subject but I'm not sure why...
man, i just typed out a big long comment and then it didn't get added and got erased. i don't really feel like typing it again, so if you'd like to just talk about this subject, give me a ring!
for me, yay is hooray. i never use yeah or yah or yea. and ya means yes for me, but not for many others...
